I would’ve followed you anywhere, gone above and beyond 35,000 feet.
I would’ve flown straight into the sun, put Icarus to shame.
I would’ve flown with one broken wing, without a compass, with no bearings.
I would’ve fought against crosswinds and rising currents, weather through the turbulence.
I would’ve memorized all the time zones, pray every night that you would come safely home.
I would’ve shield you from the hurts of this world or face them with you. I’d convince you that the monsters aren’t real.
I would’ve loved every inch of you, mend every broken bone, kiss away all the tears.
I would’ve done all this and so much more,
But you pushed me away and flew on alone.
